Fun things to do in the Riviera Maya

You won’t have a problem finding fun things to do on the Riviera Maya. Every member of the family will be able to locate the perfect vacation experience. You can spend your entire trip at your all-inclusive resort and have plenty of entertainment options. But if you decide to venture away from your resort you should ask the staff what they suggest. They’ll be able to recommend the restaurants that the locals enjoy as well as the tourist hot spots.

Here are a few of your options in the Riviera Maya:

If you’re looking for an out of the ordinary wild adventure then this is a great place to start. Xplor Eco Theme Park offers two zip line circuits one that travels just under a mile and one that travels over 1.5 miles of canopy tree tops. This is an adventure for the brave of heart. They also offer several other tours through the jungle trails on four-wheelers and rafts that navigate the underground rivers.

Looking for something different? Try the Columbus Lobster Cruise.  Travel around Nichupte Lagoon dining on lobster, steak or shrimp enjoying the beautiful sunsets.

If you want to experience some of the historical Mayan Culture you can visit Tulum. This is the only Mayan site on the ocean front. There are three major structures of interest at the Tulum site. El Castillo, the Temple of the Frescoes, and the Temple of the Descending God are the three most famous buildings.

The water sports in the Maya Riviera is what draws many people to the area. Your options are also unlimited. Some choices include:

Scuba diving
Snorkeling
Surfing
Deep sea fishing
Sail Boats
Parasailing
Deep sea diving
Glass bottom boats

Horseback riding along the beach is another way of enjoying the magnificent scenery.

If you’re a golfer you can find some beautiful golf courses in the area. You may have one on-site or close to your resort. But be prepared, these courses are a notch above the ordinary and offer challenging games.

What about the nightlife you ask? You’ll have your choice of reggae or jazz concerts, discos, live music, and a host of nice restaurants. You can even enjoy a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” if you visit Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville.  Dance the night away at Coco Bongo with locations in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

Find out about any festivals or events that are taking place while you’re visiting. These can be a great way to soak up some local culture.

There are many malls and open air markets for shopping. Some feature local artists that you can watch making their wares. Ask the staff at your resort the best places for local shopping so you don’t get trapped in an overpriced mall.

Don’t forget to spend at least one afternoon relaxing at the spa. Vacations should be restful so don’t fall into the trap of planning too many things in too short a time. You’ll be in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the world, so take some time to lie on the beach and listen to the pounding of the waves. Enjoy a few daiquiris.

Remember, you can always come back next year.
